Chili Philly Cheesesteak

Very few recipes could be so noteworthy that they warrant their own wikipedia entry. Philadelphia cheesesteak belongs to this exclusive club. In this post, we present a variation of this classic sandwich for those with a love for spicy food. Imagine feasting on a sandwich with chopped steak and melted cheese spiced up by bits of jalapeno peppers. I could hardly wait!

  • 1/2 kg. beef round steak, cut into thin strips
  • 200 g freshly grated mozerella cheese
  • 50 g grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 green jalapeno pepper, chopped into small pieces (or to taste)
  • soft hoagie rolls, split and slightly toasted
  • 2 medium onions, cut into rings
  • 1 tbsp. fresh garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. olive oil
  1. Heat olive oil in a pan. In heated oil, saute garlic, onions and jalapeno pepper for about 1 to 2 minutes.
  2. Add the steak strips and cook until it is slightly brown. Season the steak with salt and pepper according to taste. Remove from fire.
  3. After the steak strips has cooled a bit, put it in a bowl. Mix thoroughly with mayonnaise.
  4. Put mixture into toasted rolls. Top sandwiches with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  5. Bake or toast the sandwiches until cheese is melted. Serve HOT!

Search by Ingredients

A lot of recipe sites have a search by ingredients feature. Usually, you enter the ingredients one by one and you get a list of recipes that uses the ingredients given on the list. It turns out you could do the same thing on our recipe search tool. You just enter all the ingredients in the search box, press the search button and presto! You get a list of recipes matching your ingredient list.

For example, you have a craving for anything with chocolate and coffee. Just type “chocolate coffee” on the search box, click the button and you get your chocolates and coffee recipe fix (note: clicking on search term link takes you to the results page). Or maybe you could try a search on the uncommon combination of “strawberry and coffee“. A search for “pineapple grapefruit orange” also gives a nice bunch of recipes.

Note that we didn’t modify the recipe search tool. It still works as described in this blog post. This post just aims to inform you of a neat trick you might have missed the first time around. We’re really glad we made the decision to use the Google custom search engine tool. It gives us really good search abilities for free. By the way, all this works with our Firefox search plugin too.

So go ahead, try it out and tell us what you think.

Crazy about Crepes

I have not had any kind of crepe in a long, long time. But I think I am going to have one this Friday when my husband and I celebrate our 3 years of wedded bliss. In the meantime, I satisfied my craving with a dose of crepe shots from Flickr. Who would have thought that you can have crepes from breakfast to dinner!
